Hotel Signage Is Hot! BY Lisa Jachimowicz

LG Electronics states "Digital Signage Viable Option for Hoteliers"

LG’s new 42-inch LCD monitor (model M4210C-BA), is optimized for digital signage applications

Overall, the digital signage industry is taking off and hotels are beginning to notice. From spa specials to convention and restaurant information, digital signage can be utilized in lobbies, restaurants or information desk kiosks as a way to  offer guests more hotel property information.

As the leading supplier of flat-panel displays to the U.S. lodging industry, LG Electronics provides one-stop shopping for hotel operators – from MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 compatible HDTVs and connectivity solutions in guestrooms, to digital signage displays and systems in lobbies and convention areas, to headend and DRM systems that deliver HD programming to enhance guest experiences.

“As a manufacturer equipped with an advanced technology group, and dedicated sales and customer service teams, LG is well-positioned to provide hotel and resort operators with a complete, innovative and integrated system,” said Ron Snaidauf, vice president, Commercial Products, LG Electronics USA, Inc.Completing LG’s full lineup of flat-screen technologies for the lodging industry are LG’s new digital signage solutions ideal for hotel lobbies, restaurants, convention venues and public areas.

LG’s new 42-inch LCD monitor (model M4210C-BA), is optimized for digital signage applications. Its built-in Internet Protocol (IP) technology provides the hospitality industry new options for customer interaction. A turnkey solution for technology integrators, digital signage offers a diverse and innovative option for hoteliers to reach customers.

Capable of portrait (vertical) or landscape (horizontal) orientation, this screen has a narrow bezel of 29 mm which enhances the use of a 4x4 video wall application. Additionally, with LG’s new IP Solution technology, hotels are able to deliver video content to multiple locations from one centralized video content and display control

Josh Coffman who specializes in Hotel Digital Signage states "The Advantages of Digital Signage for Hotels"

Some advantages:

Desirable Demographics for advertisers - Competition is fierce online for the travel industry and for travel related businesses, with many PPC campaigns paying several dollars per click. Hotels provide solid targeted demographics which vary depending on the brand and class. While both are going to have a lot of crossover and be highly attractive to advertisers, Marriott clients are going to vary considerably from W clients. Business travelers can be targeted during the week and leisure travelers can be targeted during the weekend. This is extremely attractive to advertisers.

Hotels have extremely capable IT personnel and engineers.

They can complete the installation themselves, expediting the installation and saving on labor.

Previous experience with flat panel monitors - Most hotels have already upgraded the televisions in their rooms with flat   panel monitors. Many have large flat panels in their bar, cafe, lobby, or elsewhere as well. I have come across properties that had 42" screens just laying around and we utilized them for digital signage. Hotels have purchasing power and are comfortable with buying screens (but not media players) for a digital signage network. They figure that if the digital signage network doesn't live up to what its supposed to do and they get stuck with a screen, they can still use that screen elsewhere.

Ability to increase your network without buying screens - You can pipe content from a media player through the in-room television system, automatically  expanding the reach of your network with minimal investment.

Hotels have strong relationships with local businesses - If the network is advertiser-supported you can play off these relationships to secure advertisers.
